Former Knight Ridder VP & CFO brings extensive media and financial expertise to Mode Media’s board

BRISBANE, CA – September 7 –Mode Media Corporation. (corp.mode.com), the leading vertical social media company with the largest online global reach in lifestyle, today announced the appointment of Gary R. Effren, former CFO of Knight Ridder, to the company’s board of directors.

Effren is a seasoned media financial expert, having served as longtime finance executive and CFO of Knight Ridder, a Fortune 500 corporation and one of the top print media companies in the U.S. Prior to his 26-year tenure at Knight Ridder, Inc., Effren started his career in 1978 as an auditor at Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. (predecessor firm to KPMG).

He currently serves on the Board of Directors at Westinghouse Solar and has previously served on the Board of United Way Silicon Valley for three terms where he was the Chairman of the Audit and Operations Committees, treasurer and member of the Executive committee. He received his undergraduate degree from Rider College and an MBA from the University of Miami in Florida.

Effren joins fellow Glam Board Directors—Marc Andreessen (Andreessen Horowitz), Tim Draper (DFJ), Theresia Ranzetta (Accel), Fernando Ruarte (Co-Founder & CTO, Mode Media), and Samir Arora, Glam CEO, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board. Also joining the board today is David Saltzman, Executive Director, The Robin Hood Foundation.
