(corp.mode.com), the pioneer of vertical networks, today announced the Tinker Apps Network (TAN), a first-of-its-kind network offering advertising and monetization opportunities around applications and sites in the real-time social Web ecosystem, such as Twitter-based applications. The Tinker Apps Network leverages Mode Media’s proven display advertising and publisher services network model, which currently serves more than 1,400 sites with a reach of 114 million global uniques (via its Glam.com and Brash.com networks) and GlamTV, a top 20 video distribution platform, according to comScore.

Launch partners for the Tinker Apps Network include: Digsby, a product which helps people manage all their social media accounts, including Twitter, from one application; Tiny Chat, video and text chat; TweetBurn, a Twitter news and tips site; Twibes, Twitter groups; Twistori, charting the emotional pulse of Twitter; TwitScoop, a Twitter trends discovery service; and TwitterMoms, tweets by topic from and for moms.

Innovative and highly-targeted widgets, applications, ads and strategic sponsorship opportunities will be available to marketers through the Tinker Apps Network. Currently advertisers are running Tinker Stream Ads, IAB-standard ad units wrapped around real-time media streams, throughout the Glam Publisher Network. Other ad products to be launched later this year include TinkerVision, which allows a brand to visualize where related tweets are originating, and Tinker140Plus, which matches the form factor of a Twitter post—140 characters long, and able to include text links.

Tinker Stream Ads are based on aggregated and filtered live Tweets, status updates, comments and other posts from a variety of social conversation platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and FriendFeed.  For example, a major retail brand has leveraged Tinker to aggregate fashion-related tweets around certain categories of clothing, then distributing the conversation via a sponsored Tinker widget across women’s sites in the Glam Publisher Network.  Brands also embed Tinker widgets on their own sites, enabling users to view and interact with each other without leaving the branded environment.

Tinker.com, launched in March 2009 by Mode Media Labs, is an application that enables the aggregation, live moderation and distribution of real-time conversations from social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook. This information can be further filtered to include photos, videos and links within conversation streams. Tinker provides digital advertisers, live event producers on on-air television shows a platform to both connect with and curate relevant social conversations.
