Announced World’s Top 10 Wine Directors and Sommeliers, Top 10 GMs and Maitre d’s

NEW YORK, NY—April 4, 2013—Last night, more than 250 foodies celebrated the release of the Foodie Top 100 Restaurants of the World list at a food-and-art-world-star-studded invite-only party highlighting the best restaurants and chefs from across the globe, with representatives from restaurants such as Le Bernardin and Marea on hand to accept their awards.

Foodie Top 100 Restaurants guide winners are the most exceptional dining experiences from around the world, including such institutions as New York’s Blanca, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Daniel, Jean-Georges, Le Bernardin, Momofuku Ko, and Per Se. Guests enjoyed small bites while listening to music provided by Finger on the Pulse/Snacky Tunes and viewing original food-inspired artworks from several of the country’s top visual artists, including David James Krugman, Rachel Rickert, Brian Kirhagis, Cameron Salvatore, and Ana Popescu. Faces Ink curated the exhibit, and James Victore created a mural of large-scale Foodie.com-inspired platters.

“The Foodie Top 100 guide started with a simple idea—that it would be amazing to bring together the knowledge of the world’s top critics and our editors to create a list of the world’s best restaurants whose main criteria is the quality of the food,” noted Samir Arora, Mode Media Chairman and CEO, and Foodie.com Publisher and Editor. “This guide represents the culmination of thousands of meals at the most memorable restaurants around the world. A tough job for these critics, but someone had to do it. In addition, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to chefs worldwide, especially those featured within our guide. Their tireless effort, and devotion to their craft, allows foodies, both amateur and professional, to enjoy the fruits of their labor.”

Last night also featured the announcement of another key element of the Foodie 100 experience – a list of the world’s Top Wine Directors and Sommeliers, as well General Managers and Maitre d’s. Among those United States based hospitality professionals earning Top Sommelier accolades are Aldo Sohm of Le Bernardin in New York, Rajat Parr of Michael Mina and RN74 in San Francisco, Rajeev Vaidya of Daniel in New York, and Seigo Takai of Keiko a Nob Hill in San Francisco.  Top General Managers and Maitre d’s include Ben Chekroun of Le Bernardin, Michael Minnillo of The French Laundry in Yountville, CA, Pierre Siue of Daniel, and Philippe Vongerichten of Jean-Georges in New York. The full lists can be viewed below.

The Foodie Top 100 Restaurants were carefully selected by several of the world’s most respected food critics including Gael Greene, Ruth Reichl, and Jonathan Gold in the United States. The print edition of the Foodie Top 100 Restaurants Worldwide will be available this summer.
